Getting Kids Involved in Helping Others: Ride a Bike for a Homeless Shelter

August 11th, 2010

In the spirit of getting little ones involved in community service, kids, moms and dads in a downtown Annapolis, Maryland got together for a bike race to benefit the local Lighthouse Shelter.  Named as a spoof on the famous race in France, Le Tour de Franklin attracted kids as young as two and as old as just off training wheels for a ride through the neighborhood complete with a pace motorbike.  To enter each racer was asked to bring an item from the shelter’s wish list of supplies.

At the end of a great morning of pelaton races and yellow balloons, the kids and parents loaded up wagons and strollers and walked up to the shelter and handed off the items to people who need them most at the shelter.  All in all, a great day of for kids to get outside and exercise while learning about the importance of giving to others.
